A cold can be like getting hit. The flu is more like getting hit by a train. If you want to avoid the flu, then getting vaccinated is a wise decision.
Many people out there are wondering about the H1N1 virus or the Swine flu as most people call it. They don’t know if whether or not the vaccine is worth the while. This virus can be deadly, so don’t take it lightly. Some symptoms that will occur if you catch this virus are a fever, coughing, sore throat, body aches, chills, and fatigue. You may also experience vomiting and diarrhea.
A no brainer about getting the vaccine is to prevent the infection. No lie, symptoms for the Swine flu are not the best. Nobody wants to sit at home, feeling like they have no energy, and knowing that they could have prevented it. That is called karma. Not only getting the vaccine will prevent the infection for you, if you don’t catch the flu then you won’t spread it. Stopping the spread of the virus will obviously stop the pandemic.
The swine flu is able to put people into the hospital. At the Providence St. Vincent Medical Center in Portland, 50 to 60 patients crowd the waiting room each day, wanting to be check for the flu. Since September 1, 449 Oregonians have been hospitalized, six of them have been from Coos County. The scary part is, within two months, 15 of the patients across the state have died because of this virus.
If you have worries that the vaccine isn’t safe, relax. “The vaccine is the absolute best protection and a perfectly safe one," said Jesse Goodman, the FDA’s acting deputy commissioner for public health. Of course there may be some complications. Every vaccine will have side effects, that’s a given. Some people might get headaches, muscle aches, fever, and nausea or feel tired after they get vaccinated for the swine flu.
Think about what is in this article. Don’t just skip out on the vaccine because you don’t think the virus is serious. People from ages 24 and younger are at the highest risk of catching the virus. So get up and get to the closest clinic or hospital to get vaccinated. It will be probably one of the wisest choices you have made (If you are allergic to chicken eggs, or any substance that is in the vaccine, ask your doctor before considering getting vaccinated).

Volleyball Back with High Hopes
Welcome back to a new school year. And with a new school year means another season of Tiger volleyball. We’ve all missed the yelling, the digging, and the spandex. The Tiger girls lost two important players due to graduation. With big shoes to fill, this year’s seniors work to make this year better than the last.
On August 24, daily doubles started. The Tiger girls welcomed the new coaches. Moving up from coaching junior varsity last season, is none other than Courtney Frietag. This season coach Frietag hopes to take the girls all the way to state. Since coach Frietag moved up to varsity, she left the junior varsity team without a coach. After coaching two seasons at Harbor Lights Middle School, Mariah Vierck took over as their new coach.
Two weeks before daily doubles started, Mariah and Courtney took ten players up to Grants Pass for the All American Volleyball Camp. While there, the players had two practices each day that lasted two and a half hours long. The camp lasted from August 13 to August 15. Since the camp did not provide housing for the girls, they held a car wash a few weeks before to help pay for the hotel rooms and the camp. After three days of drills and competing against other schools that went to the camp, the players came back to have a week off before daily doubles started.
With daily doubles over with, the Tiger girls held a little jamboree on September 8th. Myrtle Point High School and Pacific High School attended. The first match was between Pacific and the Tigers. The Tigers came out as the winners with the score of 25-8. The second match was between Myrtle Point and Pacific. The Tigers had a break, so they sat in the stands and watched Myrtle Point to get ready for their match against them. After a long trial of rallies and cheering, Myrtle Point pulled ahead and won, the score, 25-13.
Next week on the 14, is meet the Tigers night, where everybody is welcomed to meet all of the fall sports athletes. It will be held in the Harbor Lights gym from 6:00pm to 7:30pm. There will be games and snacks to enjoy. On the 15 will be the Tiger girl’s first league match against Gold Beach High School. The match will be held here at the Otis K. Murray court. Keep Tuesday open and come to the match. Support the girls and cheer them to victory.

On the prowl for the Playoffs
The Tiger volleyball team is dominating the court. The varsity has a score of 4-3, and they are on the prowl to get to the State play offs. It has been a while since Tiger volleyball has made it to State, but this year will be different.
Ever since daily doubles, the girls have been working to prove that they have what it takes to make it to State. Every game the girls have competed with all their hearts. With the few exceptions of the 3 losses the Tiger girls have, the girls pulled through and shown that they have the skill and the heart to want State.
The J.V. team is not to be forgotten though. With the score of 3- 4 the girls are not giving up. Even though the J.V. team does not have the privilege of going to State, they still work to prove themselves. Next year, more than half of the J.V. team will move up and become varsity players. This year they work to show that they have what it takes and that they can compete with a higher skill level.
All in all, Bandon Volleyball is having a terrific season. Not only are the girls going out there and kicking some butt, they are having fun while they are at it. Don’t believe it? Then go to the next home game which is Thursday, October 15. Cheer the girls on and enjoy the company of the crowd. The Tiger volleyball players would appreciate the support that you show. You won’t regret ditching your relaxing time on Thursday to watch the Tigers rally against Cascade Christian.

Volleyball girls slaughtered teachers
The volleyball players, with the help of Connor Jackson, crushed the teachers in the students vs. teacher’s volleyball game on last Fridays pep assembly. The teachers included Mr. and Mrs. Edson, Mr. Frietag, Mr. Hatfield, Mrs. Villagomez, Mr. Angove, and Mr. Polamalu. The teachers showed the volleyball players and the stands what little volleyball skills they could muster up. Let’s just hope the teachers don’t have professional volleyball as a future career.
