Welcome back to a new school year. And with a new school year means another season of Tiger volleyball. We’ve all missed the yelling, the digging, and the spandex. The Tiger girls lost two important players due to graduation. With big shoes to fill, this year’s seniors work to make this year better than the last.
On August 24, daily doubles started. The Tiger girls welcomed the new coaches. Moving up from coaching junior varsity last season, is none other than Courtney Frietag. This season coach Frietag hopes to take the girls all the way to state. Since coach Frietag moved up to varsity, she left the junior varsity team without a coach. After coaching two seasons at Harbor Lights Middle School, Mariah Vierck took over as their new coach.
Two weeks before daily doubles started, Mariah and Courtney took ten players up to Grants Pass for the All American Volleyball Camp. While there, the players had two practices each day that lasted two and a half hours long. The camp lasted from August 13 to August 15. Since the camp did not provide housing for the girls, they held a car wash a few weeks before to help pay for the hotel rooms and the camp. After three days of drills and competing against other schools that went to the camp, the players came back to have a week off before daily doubles started.
With daily doubles over with, the Tiger girls held a little jamboree on September 8th. Myrtle Point High School and Pacific High School attended. The first match was between Pacific and the Tigers. The Tigers came out as the winners with the score of 25-8. The second match was between Myrtle Point and Pacific. The Tigers had a break, so they sat in the stands and watched Myrtle Point to get ready for their match against them. After a long trial of rallies and cheering, Myrtle Point pulled ahead and won, the score, 25-13.
Next week on the 14, is meet the Tigers night, where everybody is welcomed to meet all of the fall sports athletes. It will be held in the Harbor Lights gym from 6:00pm to 7:30pm. There will be games and snacks to enjoy. On the 15 will be the Tiger girl’s first league match against Gold Beach High School. The match will be held here at the Otis K. Murray court. Keep Tuesday open and come to the match. Support the girls and cheer them to victory.
