The students of Bandon High School are released at 1:30 on Friday, the 18th. The final bell of the day will signal the beginning of Winter Break. Eighteen long days away from school. Students and staff, alike, welcome the days where they do not have to deal with homework, noisy hallways, and restrooms that never seem to have toilet paper.
The holidays are celebrated differently by each and every family. Some may celebrate it with Christmas, the decorating of their tree, giving others presents, and sipping eggnog by the fire. Others may celebrate the holidays with Hanukkah. They light an additional candle on their Menorah on each night of the holiday. They play the game of dreidel, and enjoy foods that are part of the tradition.
Each family has a way of celebrating the holidays, and they may not be the ones talked about in this article. But celebrating the holidays isn’t the only thing they do during the break. Some families could go skiing. Some may build a new puzzle each holiday, while some may just bake cookies with each other. Winter break is a time for families to get together and work on old traditions or making new ones.
“A tradition my family has is that one Christmas Eve we open only one present,” senior Isaac Golden shares. “Then on Christmas day we open the rest of the presents. This year we are going to be celebrating at our new home. My favorite thing about break though is New Years. It’s fun hanging out with friends, staying up late, and partying, but not in the bad way. What type of kid do you think I am?
When Grover was asked about the break, she smiled with the thoughts of the past.
“When my mother was four, till I was a junior is high school, Santa always visited us at 8pm on Christmas Eve. Santa was one of my grandfather’s friends. When it was around 7 or 8pm, he would bring in our best presents and hand them to my family and me. One new thing I am going to do is I am going to visit my niece and nephew in Utah this holiday.”
The holidays are filled with traditions. Each tradition is different. What is the same though, is the love that is spread from family member to family member. The holidays only come once a year, though. So don’t waste your time on pointless arguments. Such as your cousin Bobby stole your Tonka truck when you were only five years old.
Share you smiles, your hugs, and your love with everyone you hold dear. The holiday happiness does not stay for long.

Criticism of the Articles.
The Tiger Times is filled with news of recent events, things that are going to happen, opinions, and things to just fill up open spaces. Some students though, seem to not appreciate some of the articles that are being put into the newspapers. They sometimes feel as if the writer of the article is using the newspaper to pick on certain types of people, which is not the case at all.
Journalism is not just an elective class. Like every other class, the students have to earn their grade. The journalist takes time during class, and at home to write their article with the upmost care. They search for the right facts, use appropriate words, and when the time comes, they use their own opinion.
The journalism class would like to ask you, our fellow readers, that if you have a problem with one of the articles that has been printed. Please, consult with us first before you take stronger actions. We would love to know how you feel, and we are always open for more suggestions.

How to Spot a Redneck
Rednecks, it’s not just a style. It is a way of life for many people. Spotting who is a redneck is not hard. First, you must check to see if they are wearing Carhartt pants or jeans that have seen better days.. This may involve checking out their bottom, but they won’t mind if you don’t get caught. Then check to see what type of shoes they are wearing. They are most likely going to be wearing work boots. Check to also see if they are wearing a ball cap. It may sport logos that involve fishing, hunting, and-or tools.
The next step to recognizing a redneck is to ask what their favorite things are. If their list involves three or more of the following habits, they are most likely a redneck. This list includes hunting, mudding, fishing, pick-up trucks, listening to country music (real rednecks hate rap), watching NASCAR, using duct tape on everything, and never picking up a book.
Use these tips to spot a redneck for yourself.

Student of the Month
Each month, a student is chosen to be recognized. Somehow the student has shown a single teacher, or a group of them, that they stand above the rest. They have proved that if the teacher is in need of assistance, they are not afraid to give a helping hand. This month Ben Rich is the chosen one.
When asked a few questions, Ben eagerly replied.
“I did not know I was student of the month,” Ben said. “I didn’t really know until Cora came up to me and asked me for the picture. I am very excited that I was picked, exhilarated actually! But the secret to being picked is to be the best, and Italian.”
If you don’t have any Italian blood in you, just do your best. Working hard and proving yourself is a sure way to get noticed. Even if you don’t get picked to be student of the month, doing your best always proves to be worth the while.
Congrats Ben for being Student of the Month!

dress code, or just bad taste?
Clothing expresses people’s personalities. Some people where top of the line clothing to show that they have the money for it. While others choose to wear dark and brooding clothing to show how they feel as if the world is turning against them. We all enjoy showing off our outfits, but what if our outfits show off to much?
I know I am not the only person to walk through our hallways and nominate a girl for wearing the lowest shirt, or wonder if a guy should even be wearing pants since his are so low. These people might like showing off what their “mama” gave them, but a few people just feel a little bit stunned at what they show.
Our school has a dress code. I know everybody has seen it at least once in their life. Rules are here for a reason. Sure, they can be skimmed a little bit. Just not so much that you are just disobeying what we have been told. Private schools have a stricter code than our school. The students may have to wear a polo, blazer and slacks, or skirts if you are part of the female student population.
Seems strict huh? You a probably think we are lucky with wearing just plain t-shirts and jeans. I know most people love their bodies, so they tend to show them off. Rules are rules though. Showing some skins is alright. Showing a lot of skin to where people know what bra or underwear you are wearing is not alright. Please follow the rules a little bit more. Nobody likes being told that they are showing off a little too much.
