High School is a very important part of a teenager’s life. There is the learning, the socializing, and the maturing. But some teens have an interruption in their high school life. The interruption is cute, and almost everyone adores them. It is a baby. Sure babies are cute, adorable, and you just want to snatch them up and squeeze them sometimes. But they are a huge responsibility.
One giant responsibility is the cost of a child. Within the first year, a mother and/or father spends on average $1000 on their new child. Think about it, with a teen’s job down at the local DQ or shopping center where they only earn minimum wage, they probably won’t be able to afford the cost. Teenagers are not cheap, so why would their newborn be?
Another responsibility is the effort and time put into a child. 70% of children put into foster care are there because the child was abused or neglected. Giving your child to someone else to watch over seems like an easy plan. Babies need their parents to learn how to gain trust. Without their parent there, showing them love, the child could grow up to be mistrustful
Maturity is a huge part in raising a child. Children need a mature figure to look up to, but a parent’s body must also be mature to carry a child. A teen’s body doesn’t stop growing until they hit the age of 21-24. Out of teen pregnancies, 14% end is a miscarriage. The number may be small, but anybody could be a part of it.
If you are a teen parent or a to-be parent, you could feel ashamed, or embarrassed of what happened. Dealing with a pregnancy is an emotional crisis. Just know that there are many people out there that can help. Reaching out can help you get through it.
An easy way to prevent you from going through this emotional crisis is to abstain from coupling. If you stay away from it, then there will be no mishaps where you could get pregnant, or get someone pregnant. If you are in a serious relationship where coupling is involved, please use protection. Babies are adorable, but the stress of pregnancy and raising a child should be saved for when you are ready for it.
